The Ministry of Health (MoH) is the government institution responsible for protecting and improving public health, planning and regulating the national healthcare system, and providing comprehensive preventive, curative, and rehabilitative healthcare services throughout the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Established in 1950, the Ministry is the largest public healthcare provider in the country, operating an extensive network of hospitals, primary healthcare centers, specialized clinics, laboratories, emergency medical services, and public health programs. Headquartered in Amman, the Ministry works closely with government agencies, universities, healthcare providers, international organizations, and the private sector to ensure accessible, high-quality, and equitable healthcare for all residents.
The Ministry oversees a wide range of responsibilities, including primary and secondary healthcare services, disease prevention and control, vaccination programs, maternal and child health, chronic disease management, emergency preparedness, environmental and occupational health, public health surveillance, health education, medical licensing, healthcare regulation, pharmaceutical policy, health statistics, and national health planning. It also supervises government hospitals and health centers, coordinates national responses to public health emergencies, and works closely with the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), the Royal Medical Services, university hospitals, and international health organizations to strengthen Jordan’s healthcare system.
As part of Jordan’s digital transformation strategy, the Ministry has expanded its electronic health services, including online medical appointments, digital health records, electronic licensing, health information systems, disease surveillance platforms, and e-government healthcare services. These initiatives have improved healthcare accessibility, service efficiency, data management, and patient care while supporting the modernization of Jordan’s health sector.
The Ministry is headed by H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Bdour, who has served as the Minister of Health since 6 August 2025. Dr. Bdour is a distinguished physician and healthcare leader with extensive experience in medicine, healthcare administration, and public health policy. Under his leadership, the Ministry continues to strengthen healthcare services, modernize hospitals and primary care facilities, expand digital health initiatives, improve preventive healthcare, enhance medical education and workforce development, and implement the objectives of Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision in the health sector.
Today, the Ministry of Health plays a fundamental role in Jordan’s social and economic development by safeguarding public health, improving healthcare quality, expanding access to medical services, promoting healthy communities, and enhancing the resilience of the national healthcare system. Through continuous investment in healthcare infrastructure, medical innovation, digital transformation, and international cooperation, the Ministry contributes significantly to the well-being of Jordanian society and the long-term sustainable development of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
