Description:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates (MoFAE) is the government institution responsible for formulating and implementing Jordan’s foreign policy, strengthening diplomatic relations, protecting the interests of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan abroad, and providing consular services to Jordanian citizens and foreign nationals. Established in 1921, the Ministry serves as Jordan’s principal diplomatic authority, representing the Kingdom in bilateral and multilateral relations while promoting peace, regional stability, international cooperation, and sustainable development. Headquartered in Amman, the Ministry manages Jordan’s network of embassies, consulates, permanent missions, and diplomatic representations around the world, working closely with international organizations, foreign governments, and the Jordanian diaspora.

The Ministry oversees a broad range of responsibilities, including diplomatic relations, international treaties and agreements, political and economic diplomacy, consular affairs, visa policy, protection of Jordanian citizens abroad, support for expatriates, international legal affairs, protocol, multilateral cooperation, and representation at regional and international organizations such as the United Nations, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. It also coordinates Jordan’s humanitarian and development cooperation, promotes foreign investment, supports international trade and cultural exchange, and plays a leading role in advancing the Kingdom’s foreign policy priorities under the guidance of His Majesty King Abdullah II. Through its digital transformation initiatives, the Ministry has expanded electronic consular services, online document legalization, visa information, appointment systems, and services for Jordanians living overseas.

The Ministry is headed by H.E. Ayman Al-Safadi, who serves as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. A veteran diplomat, journalist, and statesman, Al-Safadi has held the position since 2017 and has continued in successive governments. He previously served as a Royal Court advisor, Minister of State for Media Affairs, government spokesperson, Senator, Director General of Jordan Radio and Television, and Editor-in-Chief of The Jordan Times and Al Ghad. Under his leadership, Jordan has continued to pursue an active foreign policy focused on regional peace, international cooperation, humanitarian assistance, economic diplomacy, and the protection of Jordan’s national interests.

Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates plays a pivotal role in strengthening Jordan’s position on the international stage. Through diplomatic engagement, strategic partnerships, effective consular services, and active participation in regional and global affairs, the Ministry contributes significantly to national security, economic development, international cooperation, and the promotion of peace and stability, making it one of the Kingdom’s most important sovereign institutions.
