The Ministry of Transport (MoT) is the government institution responsible for developing, regulating, and modernizing Jordan’s transportation sector while ensuring the safe, efficient, and sustainable movement of people and goods throughout the Kingdom. Established in 1995, the Ministry formulates and implements national transport policies, strategic infrastructure plans, and regulatory frameworks covering land, air, rail, and maritime transport. The Ministry oversees a broad range of responsibilities, including transportation policy and planning, public transportation development, freight and logistics, railway development, maritime transport, civil aviation coordination, transport infrastructure planning, road freight regulation, multimodal transport, transport safety, and international transport agreements. It supervises and coordinates with several key entities, including the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC), the Jordan Maritime Commission (JMC), the Jordanian Railway Corporation, and works closely with the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) and Airport International Group (AIG) to improve transport services and infrastructure. The Ministry also leads major national projects aimed at expanding public transport, enhancing logistics corridors, and improving regional connectivity.
As part of Jordan’s digital transformation strategy, the Ministry has introduced a range of electronic services, including transport licensing support, digital permit systems, project management platforms, transport data services, and integrated e-government solutions. These initiatives improve regulatory efficiency, service delivery, transparency, and coordination across Jordan’s transportation sector while supporting smart mobility and sustainable transport solutions.
The Ministry is headed by H.E. Eng. Wissam Al Tahtamouni, who serves as the Minister of Transport. Eng. Al Tahtamouni is an experienced engineer and public sector leader with extensive expertise in infrastructure, transportation planning, and project management. Under her leadership, the Ministry continues to modernize Jordan’s transport network, improve public transportation services, strengthen logistics and freight operations, promote sustainable mobility, and implement strategic infrastructure projects aligned with Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision. The Ministry works closely with international financial institutions, regional transport organizations, and development partners to attract investment and adopt global best practices in transportation.
Today, the Ministry of Transport plays a vital role in Jordan’s economic and social development by improving national connectivity, facilitating trade, enhancing public transportation, strengthening logistics services, and supporting sustainable infrastructure development.
