The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) is the government institution responsible for promoting social welfare, protecting vulnerable groups, strengthening family cohesion, and supporting sustainable community development throughout the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Ministry oversees a broad range of responsibilities, including social assistance programs, poverty alleviation, family and child protection, care for older persons, services for persons with disabilities, licensing and supervision of charitable societies, orphan care, rehabilitation centers, community development initiatives, women’s empowerment, social care institutions, volunteer work, and social protection policies. It also supervises residential care facilities, juvenile care institutions, family counseling services, and community-based development programs while coordinating national efforts to enhance social justice and improve the well-being of vulnerable populations. Through its digital transformation initiatives, the Ministry has expanded electronic services for financial assistance, licensing of charitable organizations, beneficiary registration, social services, and e-government platforms to improve service accessibility and efficiency.
The Ministry is headed by H.E. Wafa Bani Mustafa, who serves as the Minister of Social Development. Minister Bani Mustafa has extensive experience in public service, parliamentary affairs, women’s empowerment, and social policy. She has previously served as Minister of State for Legal Affairs, Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, and as a Member of the House of Representatives. Under her leadership, the Ministry continues to strengthen Jordan’s social protection system, expand services for vulnerable groups, promote community participation, empower women and youth, modernize social care programs, and implement initiatives aligned with Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision and the national social protection strategy.
