The Ministry of Interior (MoI) is one of Jordan’s sovereign ministries, responsible for maintaining national security, public order, civil administration, border management, and the implementation of laws and regulations related to internal affairs. Established in 1921, the Ministry plays a central role in safeguarding the Kingdom’s stability, protecting citizens and residents, and coordinating security and administrative affairs across Jordan. Headquartered in Amman, the Ministry supervises governorates, administrative divisions, residency and border affairs, civil protection coordination, and public security policies while working closely with security agencies, local authorities, and other government institutions.
The Ministry oversees a wide range of responsibilities, including the administration of Jordan’s 12 governorates, residency and foreign affairs, border crossings, visa and residency permits, nationality-related procedures, civil defense coordination, crisis and emergency management, governorate administration, local security committees, and public safety policies. It also coordinates with the Public Security Directorate (PSD), the Civil Status and Passports Department (CSPD), the General Intelligence Department (GID), and other national institutions to strengthen internal security, combat crime, enhance border protection, and ensure effective public administration. Through its digital transformation initiatives, the Ministry has introduced numerous electronic services, including online visa applications, residency permit services, appointment systems, and digital government services that improve efficiency and accessibility for citizens, residents, and visitors.
The Ministry is headed by H.E. Mazin Abdellah Hilal Al Farrayeh, who has served as the Minister of Interior since 7 March 2021. Before his appointment, Minister Al Farrayeh served for more than 25 years in the Jordan Armed Forces, holding several senior military leadership positions. He holds a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, a Master’s degree in Military Science from the Joint Command and Staff College in Kuwait, a Bachelor’s degree in Military Science, and a Bachelor’s degree in General Management from Mu’tah University. Under his leadership, the Ministry has focused on strengthening border security, modernizing public services, enhancing crisis management capabilities, expanding digital government services, and improving regional security cooperation.
Today, the Ministry of Interior plays a fundamental role in preserving Jordan’s security, stability, and rule of law. Through effective governance, modern public administration, digital transformation, border management, and close cooperation with national security institutions, the Ministry contributes significantly to public safety, national resilience, investment confidence, and the sustainable development of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
