The Ministry of Agriculture is the government institution responsible for developing Jordan’s agricultural sector, enhancing food security, protecting natural resources, and promoting sustainable rural development. Established in 1921, the Ministry formulates and implements national agricultural policies while supporting farmers, livestock producers, agricultural cooperatives, investors, and agribusinesses across the Kingdom. Headquartered in Amman, with directorates and agricultural offices throughout all governorates, the Ministry plays a central role in improving agricultural productivity, preserving biodiversity, managing forests and rangelands, and strengthening Jordan’s resilience against climate change and water scarcity.
The Ministry oversees a broad range of responsibilities, including crop and livestock development, veterinary services, plant protection, agricultural research and extension, irrigation support, forest conservation, fisheries, animal health, quarantine services, seed certification, agricultural investment, food production, and rural development. It also regulates the import and export of agricultural products, monitors plant and animal diseases, supports modern farming technologies, and works closely with local and international organizations to improve food safety, environmental sustainability, and agricultural innovation. Through its digital transformation initiatives, the Ministry has expanded its electronic services to facilitate licensing, permits, certifications, agricultural guidance, and support programs for farmers and investors.
The Ministry is headed by H.E. Dr. Saeb Abdul Halim Al Kharaisat, who has served as Minister of Agriculture since 6 August 2025. The Minister oversees the Ministry’s strategic direction, agricultural development programs, natural resource management, veterinary and plant health services, and national food security initiatives. Working in cooperation with government institutions, the private sector, universities, international organizations, and development partners, the Ministry continues to modernize Jordan’s agricultural sector through innovation, sustainability, and climate-smart farming practices.
Today, the Ministry of Agriculture plays a vital role in supporting Jordan’s economic and social development by strengthening food security, increasing agricultural productivity, protecting natural resources, improving rural livelihoods, and enhancing the competitiveness of Jordanian agricultural products in regional and international markets. Through sustainable agricultural policies, scientific research, digital services, and international cooperation, the Ministry contributes significantly to environmental protection, economic diversification, and the long-term prosperity of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
