Jordan Customs is one of the Kingdom’s principal government institutions operating under the Ministry of Finance. Established in 1926, the Department is responsible for regulating and facilitating the movement of goods, vehicles, and travelers across Jordan’s borders while protecting the national economy, collecting customs duties and taxes, and enforcing customs laws. Through its headquarters in Amman and an extensive network of customs centers, border crossings, airports, free zones, and logistics facilities, Jordan Customs serves importers, exporters, travelers, shipping companies, customs brokers, logistics providers, and government agencies. The Department plays a vital role in supporting international trade, enhancing border security, and promoting Jordan as a regional trade and logistics hub.
Jordan Customs administers the Customs Law and related regulations, ensuring that imported and exported goods comply with national legislation, international agreements, and trade policies. Its responsibilities include customs clearance, tariff classification, customs valuation, origin verification, duty collection, temporary admission procedures, bonded warehouses, free zones, transit operations, post-clearance audits, risk management, anti-smuggling enforcement, and the protection of intellectual property rights at the border. The Department also works closely with security agencies to combat customs fraud, illegal trade, counterfeit goods, narcotics trafficking, and other forms of cross-border crime.
As part of Jordan’s digital transformation strategy, Jordan Customs has implemented a wide range of electronic customs services, including online customs declarations, electronic payment systems, digital customs documentation, risk-based inspection systems, automated clearance procedures, and integration with Jordan’s National Single Window for Trade. These initiatives have significantly reduced customs clearance times, improved transparency, enhanced trade facilitation, and strengthened the Kingdom’s competitiveness in regional and international markets.
The Department is headed by the Director General of Jordan Customs, who oversees customs operations, border management, trade facilitation, revenue collection, and institutional modernization. Working in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, customs administrations worldwide, the World Customs Organization (WCO), and other international partners, Jordan Customs continuously develops its regulatory framework, technology infrastructure, and professional capabilities to meet international customs standards and best practices.
Today, Jordan Customs plays a strategic role in protecting Jordan’s economic interests while facilitating legitimate trade and travel.
