The Public Security Directorate (PSD) is Jordan’s national law enforcement agency operating under the Ministry of Interior. Established in 1956, it is responsible for maintaining public security, enforcing the law, protecting lives and property, preventing crime, managing traffic, and providing emergency and civil protection services throughout the Kingdom. Following the integration of the Civil Defense Directorate and the Gendarmerie Directorate in 2019, the PSD became Jordan’s unified public security authority.

The Directorate oversees police services, criminal investigations, traffic management, civil defense, firefighting and rescue operations, correction and rehabilitation centers, forensic science, narcotics control, cybersecurity, tourist police, and community policing. It also provides a wide range of digital services, including traffic fine payments, criminal record certificates, accident reporting, appointments, and security-related e-services.

The PSD is headed by Major General Dr. Obaidallah Maaytah, who serves as the Director of Public Security. Under his leadership, the Directorate continues to modernize policing through advanced technology, smart security systems, specialized training, and international cooperation.

Today, the Public Security Directorate plays a vital role in safeguarding Jordan’s security, maintaining public order, protecting citizens and visitors, and supporting national stability through professional policing, emergency response, and community engagement.
