Maqam Ja’far ibn Abi Talib is an important Islamic religious and historical site located in Al-Mazar Al-Janubi in Karak Governorate. The shrine is dedicated to the revered companion Ja’far ibn Abi Talib, also known as Ja’far al-Tayyar, who was the cousin of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and one of the commanders of the Muslim army during the Battle of Mu’tah.
Ja’far ibn Abi Talib was martyred during the Battle of Mu’tah in 629 AD, an important event in early Islamic history that took place in the surrounding region. His shrine is now part of one of Jordan’s most significant religious heritage areas, which also contains sites associated with other commanders and companions who were martyred in the battle.
Today, the maqam attracts pilgrims and visitors interested in Islamic history and Jordan’s religious heritage. The complex includes a large mosque and the shrine traditionally associated with Ja’far ibn Abi Talib, making it an important stop when exploring the Islamic heritage sites of Karak and Mu’tah.
